...A Designer...

Summer will soon be upon us, and (in addition to the garden), I am making a list of as many around-the-house projects I can think of.  I have no wedding planning to occupy my every waking moment this summer, so I need lots and lots of things to do because I do not tolerate boredom well. At all.

I adore, love, and fancy the front door of our house, but I loathe, abhor, and despise the color.  Right now it is a terrible shade of Hunter Green that reminds me of early Nineties decor. I was never a fan of early Nineties decor even IN the early Nineties when I was only five years old.  Even as a child I understood the heinous factor of Hunter Green and Maroon.  Flash forward 20 years, and I still hate those colors.

According to the Feng Shui experts, "The position, design, state of repair and feng shui colours of your front door are all vitally important. This is because the front door is considered to be the “mouth of chi" where vital energy enters and exits your home. In addition, your front door is where you leave the outside world behind and enter your inner realm or world. It is, therefore, an important indicator of how you relate to the world as an individual. It gives a clear message to the outside world of who you are and what you stand for.  A welcoming and attractive front door with the appropriate feng shui door color will ease the flow of energy, people, money and opportunities into your life." Clearly, I do not, under any circumstance, want the outside world mistaking me for a Hunter Green person.  This only adds validity to my quest to reclaim my front door as my own.

Please ignore the fact that this photo is sideways as I cannot get it to stay straight as hard as I try. This is our door in its current state.

I am contemplating two color choices: Bright Red and Chartreuse.  My mother loves a bright red door. In fact, the door of the house in which I grew up has been bright red since 1989.  Mom always says that a red front door is good luck.  I feel like Bright Red is a safe option for our house as it is all brick with white trim and black shutters. Also, per the Feng Shui experts, the perfect color for south-facing doors is Bright Red. Our house just so happens to face south. I do want my chi to be flowin', after all.

However, on the other, less safe, hand is Chartreuse.  The art major in me is drawn to Chartreuse and has been for several years now.  I happen to love Chartreuse because it is slightly offbeat like yours truly.  It's not quite green, and it's not quite yellow. It's too yellow to be Lime and it's nowhere near the vomitocious Hunter Green. It is what it is. My only hesitation is that it may be...too much. Then again, it may be just right.

So what do you think? Should I play it safe, classic, and bold and go Red? Or should I throw convention to the wind, risk clashing with the rest of my house, and embrace an oft-misunderstood hue?
